Define paths, entrances and paved areas
Modular block paving can organise several parts of an outdoor layout. It may form a main entrance, a garden path, a paved seating area or a border that connects a larger patio and driveway scheme. Block dimensions, colour blends and textures affect the style, while the chosen pattern controls the direction and rhythm of the surface. Contrasting edge courses can frame the space and protect busy boundaries. We also consider thresholds and links with neighbouring surfaces so the paving does not end with an awkward lip.

Accurate lines on a compacted foundation
We set out the area, excavate and compact the sub-base before installing firm edge restraints. A prepared laying course supports accurate alignment and even levels. Once the blocks are positioned, jointing sand and final compaction lock the surface together. Falls and drainage routes are built into the plan, with service covers and adjoining paving handled carefully. One useful feature of modular paving is that individual units can later be lifted and relaid when access is required below, subject to their condition.
Detailed paving without fragile shortcuts
Clear edge definition
Contrasting courses frame paths and help hold the main paving in place.
Access below the paving
Individual blocks may be lifted and relaid for future underground work.
Connections without trip edges
We resolve thresholds and adjoining levels before the blocks are laid.
Questions and answers
- Where can block paving be installed?
- It can suit driveways, paths, entrances, seating areas and coordinated borders, provided the construction matches the intended load. Vehicle areas need stronger supporting layers than lightly used garden routes. We plan the base around how the paving will be used.
- Can I combine two block colours?
- Yes. A second colour can create a border, mark an entrance or divide separate parts of the layout. The effect works best when the colours and pattern are chosen together. Too many changes can make a small area look busy rather than carefully defined.
- What keeps the blocks from spreading?
- Firm edge restraints hold the perimeter while jointing sand and compaction help the blocks work together as a surface. The sub-base must also remain stable. Weak edges or poorly compacted layers can allow movement even when the blocks initially look neat.
